It is our intention that this website function as an educational tool, an inspiration for future oral history gathering, and historical documentation of what is lost in the course of social “progress.” ![]() It contains the photo collection and identification of Tortilla Flats families and places – the ongoing efforts of the Tortilla Flats Legacy committee, as well as documentation of their many neighborhood reunions. It contains media coverage and bureaucratic maneuverings of said murals. It contains the oral histories gathered from the neighborhood residents and the photos and drawings from which 3 monumental murals were created. Thier closest allies are the Santana Blocc Compton Crips, along with the Palm & Oak Gangster Crips and Latana Blocc Compton Crips.The Tortilla flats Legacy Project Website is a digital compilation of the hard copy archives created from 1992-2022, documenting the Tortilla Flats neighborhood displaced in the late 1940’s-early 1950s when the 101 freeway was built through westside Ventura CA (the 1960s). Other rivals include the Compton Varrio Tortilla Flats, Compton Varrio 155, South Side Compton Crips, Nutty Blocc Compton Crips, Ward Lane Compton Crips and the Park Village Compton Crips. Although not as large as other Crip gangs, this gang is still considered a the Compton area and are rivals of all Pirus mainly to the Tree Top Pirus, Original Block Piru 151, 145 Neighborhood Pirus and the Cedar Block Piru gang. and Popular Street, between Wilmington Avenue and Central Avenue. Today, Their neighborhood stretches from Compton Blvd. The name of this gang derives from a residential street called Palmer Street which sat in the heart of what used to be their territory before they were pushed off of portions of their turf by both the Compton Varrio Tortilla Flats and Tree Top Pirus during the early 2000s. The West Side (W/S) Palmer Blocc Compton Crips are a relatively small primarily African-American street gang founded in the western region of Compton, California in the 1970s. ![]()
